Do you offer wireless charging and is it on your roadmap?
This is a question that has been asked and sparked many an engaging conversation across the globe in recent months where we have attended the BETT show in London, CETPA in California, FETC in Orlando and TCEA in Texas.
And it seems it has been a hot topic of debate, not just for our consumers and partners, but also across our industry sparking recent articles in The Telegraph and Wired to name a few.
Is it a viable option…?
LapCabby’s tech partner and recognised Leader in Mobile Technology Charging and Connectivity, Cambrionix recently examined the capabilities of wireless charging in mainstream establishments and consumer markets and identified a host of problematic features, and some general uncertainties which I both agree with and feel should be highlighted:
- – Considerably more expensive than wired charging
- – Unreliable – only charges when device aligned specific way
- – Cannot use devices while charging
- – Takes longer to fully-charge
And last but certainly not least, as Cambrionix summarise below, the key issue with wireless charging remains – You can’t be 100% confident your device will fully charge and multi device charging is not yet viable.
“One last problem that is probably worth mentioning, is that you can only charge one device at once. There is no option for multi charging. Although this isn’t as much of a problem if you only have one device, when you start having a few (as I do), you start running out of space. If you charge with wires, it’s easy enough to get a good quality multi-port USB charger” .
