A BBC article has reported that “Three US hospitals have been forced to temporarily close their doors to ‘all but the most critical new patients’ following a ransomware outbreak.”
The article later refers to reports of similar insidents in Australia. The reality is that these cyber criminals can target just about any vulnerable facility they like, anywhere in the world from the comfort and seculsion of their bedrooms. Hospitals, like many other institutions, are guarding against these sorts of attacks by strenthening their online security but there are other precautions that need to be taken, namely;
- ensuring all smart-devices are running the most up-to-date software with automatic updates switched on so that operating-system patches and bug-repairs can protect your device from hackers
- not leaving devices unattended and being sure to lock away in secure place where internet access is still accessable (to ensure automatic updates can be installed) – did you know that some charging & storage units restrict wifi access while doors are closed? LapCabby provides safe, simple and secure lockable storage, in compact units ideal to suit space-restrictive environments and our smartly designed frames will never limit wifi to your device.
